Tailors

Ketut & her family have been providing tailor services to locals, and tourists for over 30 years. From the street their shop looks just like any other in the tourist hotspot of Legian. But tucked away behind the shop is a traditional Balinese home (Rumah Gapura Candi Bentar in Indonesian) where three generations of her family live, work & play.

Neither of us can remember the first time we met Ketut, she’s been a constant in all of our trips to Bali.

Jewellery

We work with two silversmiths in Bali, both of which have been operating for over 20 years.

In 1998 Suri Yanto opened his workshop in Denpasar and started making silver jewellery. 24 years later his son Prama runs the workshop and all of their employees & their families live in the complex surrounding it.

During our last trip to Bali we were invited into their living complex where animals were roaming free, kids were riding bikes and people were gathered outside cooking, laughing & playing card games.

While not all of them are blood relatives, everyone refers to each other as family.

Desak opened his small jewellery store in Celuk Village to support his growing family in 1986. The store has grown over time and is now an end to end business with shop staff, designers & silversmiths creating the pieces. 36 years later they now employ 15 staff, some family, some friends.

Crochet

Ayu & Tika grew up in a farming district in Bali called Tabanan & started learning crochet as a hobby when they were young. The two of them prefer to work on the farm with their families, especially during the coffee harvest season, but enjoy designing & making pieces when they have some down time.

All pieces are made in their homes using yarn from the local markets.
